Here is some information about proper roofing installation:

Underlayment: For decking, a felt paper is installed to a clean deck to allow moisture to escape from your attic while providing the best protection against wind driven rain.


Leak Barrier: Provides protection against leaks caused by property movement and extreme weather. Typically installed in valleys, around dormers, at flashings and transitions and around penetrations and skylights.


Quality shingles: Choosing the right shingle can increase the value of your home. We use quality roofing shingles that are algae resistant and carry solid warranties from top manufacturers. We install these shingles according to the manufacturers requirements to protect you and your home.


Low slope membranes: Commercial grade self-adhering roofing systems are used for low slope roofs. These are two ply and they are safe because no open torches or hot asphalt are used.


Distinctive Hip and Ridge Caps: Similar to the way that a distinctive frame enhances a painting, Architectural caps can enhance the beauty and value of your roof, while guarding against leaks at the hips and ridges.


Effective attic ventilation: Attic ventilation helps remove excess heat and moisture from your attic that can raise your energy bills, cause premature peeling of paint and wallpaper and even affect your health.


Starter shingles: Starters reduce the risk of blow-off and therefore are installed around the entire perimeter of your roof.


Flashing: Flashing is metal edging that is installed where walls, chimneys and skylights adjoin your roof, as well as boots for all of your vent pipes to prevent water from either soaking wood or entering your home. It helps guide water away from wood and onto your roof. Typically, flashing is either galvanized steel or aluminum. Aluminum is moderately priced and naturally resistant to decay. Copper is the most expensive but also lasts longest.


Things to Consider When Choosing a Contractor

There are many things to consider when you're thinking about a new roof or home improvement. Most importantly, you need to choose the right contractor for the job.
You should consider all of the contractor’s bids, and how they came up with their respective quotes rather then just picking the lowest bidder. You won’t save any money at all if you get poor workmanship or substandard materials. Also, if the contractor improperly installs the materials, it may void the manufacture's warranty.

There are a lot of things to consider when you're thinking about a new roof.

  1. Make sure every bid you get includes important information such as the brand of materials and complete descriptions of the scope of work.

  2. The contract should have the contractor's name, street address (not just a P.O. box) and phone number.

  3. Don't automatically pick the low bidder. You're not saving money at all if you get a shoddy job or substandard materials or if the contractor installs shingles in a way that voids the manufacturer's warranty.
    If you have several bidders saying you've got problems and a low bidder saying there's a cheaper fix, you might want to bounce his proposal off his competitors.

  4. Check all bidders out with the Better Business Bureau.

  5. Ask for business or supplier references. A contractor who's having trouble paying bills could have trouble finishing your job.

  7. Never pay a roofer - or any remodeler in full in advance.

  8. Never hire someone who shows up at your door offering you a bargain because he's already working in the neighborhood or has leftover materials from another job.

  9. You have three business days (Saturday counts) to cancel a home-improvement contract under both federal and state law.
    You must be given written notice of your right to cancel. If you do decide to cancel, do it in writing and have proof. (A fax confirmation works nicely, as does sending a letter by certified mail.)

  10. Get copies of any warranties and a statement that all suppliers have been paid in full before you write the final check. This can be finalized by requesting a lien waiver stating you are not responsible for paying the materials or the labor once you have made payment in full for your roof replacement.
